New Pretties to Play With...

.
Now look at these pretties, I have been waiting patiently (OK that's a lie I have been waiting on tender hooks) for them to arrive. Remember the posting where I showed my first successfully completed mixed media piece of jewellery and this posting where I explained how I got to that stage.
.
Well the lovely Maureen who inspired me when she sent her card with a polymer clay embellishment was so touched by my pleasure, she decided to put her hand to creating some more beads/ focal pieces for me to look at. Well I looked and loved and bought and now they are here, yippee!!!
.
When they arrived I was in the middle of making some more valentine themed stock and I knew I had to put them back in the gold tissue paper they came in and hide them away in a drawer, so as to not get distracted or tempted into doing something else.
.
.
Well my resolve was weak and I caved, you see one bead in particular screamed at me to make a bracelet, my bead stock immediately jumped to mind when I saw it and I new exactly which beads to use with it. So yep! distracted I did get and ended up making the bracelet above, boy am I a lost cause, no discipline whatsoever, tut!

I have since wrapped the others up nice and tight so as to not get further distracted while I work on completing my first task.

This beauty will be posted onto the blogshop early next week.

Bead Soup Party Update: Arrival of Package

Only one letter popped through my letter box this morning and hurray it was my Bead Soup Party playthings :)

Now remember my swap partner is Zuleykha an artist that works with polymer clay, so she sent me one of her handmade pendants, some coordinating beads and a cute silver clasp.

My mind thus far in the short time I have had this package all of maybe 15 minutes have come up so far with three possibilities (oh dear be still my beating heart) and more ideas are forming as I type.

I'll sure be working on it later today.

Products of A Spark, Given as a Gift.

Following on from my good fortune and the creative spark it generated I have been busy and in the last 24 hrs I have produced 5 new pieces for my Blogshop. I only finished the last one tonight so I'll take its photo with props tomorrow in the daylight and then post them on the Shops' blog after.

In the mean time here is a sneak peak of the pieces on blank canvases so to speak.

This piece is made of recycled elements with only the cording and beads near the clasp being new.
.
The buttons and the brass focal piece were bought in a little store which opened weeks before Christmas in our town, they sell old and vintage items sourced in France.
.
When I'm in there I'm like a kid in a candy store, I riffle through baskets, etc find little nit bits bring them home, clean them and put aside for future projects.
.
The other brass elements, the chain and clasp were both off of a belt I picked up at a charity store and again everything is thoroughly cleaned before reuse.
.
Front of Buttons Back of Buttons
.
This whimsical bracelet is made up of glass beads, gold coloured wire and buttons which I handmade, hand painted before sealing with clear acrylic varnish. I absolutely loved how it turned out.

Knotted silver ribbon, silver coloured beads and brown wooden beads with a star dangle makes for a simple elegant piece.

I loved creating this focal using the same materials as the buttons, for it take me home. Paired up with an actual piece of drift wood from my collection of STUFF! and pulled together with some gold wire and chain help to create the look of 'A Beachcomber's Look'.

And last but not least using one of my dragonflies I created an idea that popped into my head last night when I was laying on my pillow awaiting sleep. I immediately got out of bed and quickly sketched the idea to prevent sleep giving me memory loss when I woke this morning.
.
The individually linked beads are a pretty blue between royal and navy. On the other side is organza ribbon and a thin wispy blue ribbon/ edging. The ribbon and the edging were tied into knots at equal interval and little red glass beads were hung from easily made copper jumprings.
.
I also successfully created a fish hook clasp which I hammered flat (another first for me). I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
.
Like I said I plan to list these on my Blogshop tomorrow but if you notice its taking awhile, please bear with me as I will also be packing and getting my eldest off to a brownie weekend away event.

My First Successful Mixed Media Piece

Well at least I think so, you can read up on how I came to achieve this goal here.

This will remain a personal piece but I'm taking myself back into the loft to see if I can keep the magic going, wish me luck :)

Eek!! There Is No Turning Back Now!!

The partners for the Bead Soup Party and Bead Swap have been emailed to all the participants and my partner is a very talented polymer clay artist, her name is Zuleykha and you can see creations by visiting her blog Zuleykha's polymer clay.

These are some of her creations, if you click on the pictures they will take you straight to her Etsy shop just in case you have to own one of her beauties.

Anyway I'm really nervous about being partnered up with such an accomplished artist, just hope I make the grade.

Its The End of A Milky Decade

So to my regular readers, have you noticed this gadget is missing?
.
10 years, 2 months, 2 weeks (to be honest its 1 week) but I didn't quite know how to remove this little gadget, well I did but it made it so final and so definite. My nursing days are over, there I have said it.
.
To be more truthful I did have a 8 month break while I was pregnant with my second little girl much to eldest disgust when it suddenly dried up when I was 2 months pregnant.
Its been a lovely journey which has taught me new things about myself as a person and as a parent.
  • About myself I have learnt how to practice my beliefs regardless of whether it differs from the status quo and to really stand up for myself regardless of the negative criticism that might be aimed at my lifestyle choices. I have always had a tendency to walk a different road from the masses but the choice to breastfeed and to long term breastfeed has really helped me to grow ever stronger in my convictions.
  • About being a parent it has reminded me to truly allow my girls to reach and achieve their stages of development at their own pace. It is an easy thing to say but can be harder to achieve especially when those around you constantly assess and suggest that just maybe it would be better to _____ (fill in the blank).

I can barely believe its been a whole decade that I have nursed for and I feel as though I should be marking this journey's end with some sort of ritual but what I do not know. Should it be private involving only myself or should I include a few very close female friends and my daughters???

Ah! its just hit me, I'll do a self portrait abstract painting and maybe a poem literary composition to go with the art piece to mark the occasion and when its done I'll share it with you all.

Anyway thanks for reading, see you soon and wishing you a great day.

New Year No Fear!!

Well my regular readers of my established first blog http://kellasvegeplotandothermusings.blogspot.com/ may have realised that the links to my other blog: Me But A Little Bit More In Depth have never worked.

Well this is where I sometimes wrote things that were more of a intimately personal musings and I didn't quite know how to share it with the world. I have decided to embrace the energy of the New Year and to finally be a little bit more bold and to put aside my fears of criticism for my beliefs and philosophies.

So with that in mind I would like to welcome all my past readers and followers to my blogs and welcome also to any new readers and followers to my newly opened blog:

A Bead Soup Party and Bead Swap!

I have nervously signed myself up for my first craft related blog swap. I am in awe of some of the art and craft creators out there, actually to be honest they not only inspire but sometimes down right intimidate me with their skills to produce effortless beauty.

So this is a swap arranged by the talented
